USCIS issued a new Form I-9. Beginning November 1, 2023, employers must use the new form.

The updated version:
1. Reduces Sections 1 and 2 to a single page, down from two pages.
2. Moves the Section 1 Preparer and/or Translator Certification area to a separate, standalone supplement that employers can provide to employees when necessary.
3. Moves Section 3, Reverification and Rehire, to a standalone supplement that employers can print out when necessary.
4. Revises the Lists of Acceptable Documents page to include some acceptable receipts, as well as guidance and links to information on automatic extensions of employment authorization documentation.
5. Includes a checkbox allowing employers to indicate they examined Form I-9 documentation remotely under a newly authorized virtual procedure rather than via physical examination.

As a reminder, the form must be completed within three business days of the new hires first day of employment. Also, the form must be manually signed unless an electronic signature solution is used.

The new form and instructions can be found here I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification (uscis.gov).
